I am a Professor of Urban and Population Geography and Head of the Centre for Migration and Urban Research at the Department of Geography, University of Tartu. I am leading the development of a longitudinal linked censuses and registers data for urban and population geographic studies in Estonia. I was trained in human geography and received my PhD from the University of Tartu in 2001. Since then I have worked as a lecturer, researcher, senior researcher and professor at the Department of Geography, University of Tartu. I have also worked a guest researcher at the Department of Geography, University of Utah, and Department of Geography, Umeå University. Currently, I do hold a position of a guest researcher at the Neighbourhood Change and Housing research group at the Department OTB — Research for the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology, led by Professor Maarten van Ham. Frequent visits lead me to Department of Geography and Economic History, Umeå University, where I collaborate with Professor Urban Lindgren, Dr. Olof Stjernström and Dr. Magnus Strömgren.

I am lecturing the courses of Demography and Population Geography, and together with Professor Rein Ahas, I am responsible for the Urban Planning and ICT master module at the University of Tartu. Likewise, if you are interested in quantitative research in the areas of migration, residential mobility, housing, segregation and neighbourhood change, you are welcome to apply for a PhD position in my young and dynamic research group.
